NEW CYBERSPACE TEXTBOOK INCLUDES CHAPTER BY BRUCE E. COLFIN & JEFFREY E. JACOBSON

New York, NY - Bruce E. Colfin, and Jeffrey E. Jacobson, of Jacobson & Colfin, P.C. contributed the "Music and the Internet" "Some Thoughts From A Copyright Perspective" chapter of the Second Edition of Real Law @ Virtual Space, a cyberspace textbook edited by Susan J. Drucker & Gary Gumpert, and, published by Hampton Press, Inc.
 
They take a look at the ever changing world of music and intellectual property in digital cyberspace from the point of view of the existing law of copyright. They have taught "Music Business Contracts" for more than 5 years at Five Towns College, an entertainment business related college in Dix Hills, NY.
 

JEFFREY E. JACOBSON SPEAKS AT INDUSTRY PANEL

New York, NY - Jeffrey E. Jacobson, of Jacobson & Colfin, P.C., participated in an Entertainment Attorney Roundtable at the Film Music Network in New York City. The Panel focused on specific issues and challenges in the film music business.
 
Charles Sanders, counsel and Senior Vice President of Legal and International Affairs to the National Music Publisher's Association, Inc., acted as moderator for the panel.
 
Jeffrey Jacobson spoke about copyright basics and the importance of registering copyrights. He later debated and answered audience questions with Charles Sanders and fellow entertainment lawyers, Steve Gordon, Stuart Lipsky and Alexei Auld, about trademarks and the entertainment industry.

BRUCE COLFIN APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF NASSAU COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION COMMITTEE ON SPORTS, ENTERTAINMENT and MEDIA LAW

New York, NY - Bruce E. Colfin of Jacobson & Colfin, P.C., has been appointed to a term as CHAIRMAN of the SPORTS, ENTERTAINMENT AND MEDIA LAW COMMITTEE of the Nassau County Bar Association. Colfin has been a member of the Nassau County Bar Association for a number of years, and was Vice Chair of the Committee for the past two.
 
Actively involved in the entertainment business academically, technically, and professionally, for over thirty years, Mr. Colfin is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Five Towns College in Dix Hills, New York, where both he, and law partner, Jeffrey Jacobson, have been teaching Music Business Contracts since 1999.

"POSTAL" VIDEO GAME VICTORIOUS OVER U.S. POSTAL SERVICE
RUNNING WITH SCISSORS WINS CASE BROUGHT BY UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE

Tucson, AZ - Six years after the United States Postal Service (USPS) sued the makers of the notorious videogame POSTAL and its ultra-controversial sequel, POSTAL 2, game developer Running With Scissors has been informed by the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board of the U.S. Department of Commerce that the USPS's opposition case had been dismissed with prejudice.
 
"We're pleased with the ruling," said Vince Desi, Running With Scissors' battle-hardened CEO, "although everyone involved knows we never should have had to fight this frivolous lawsuit in the first place. Our game is funny. Theirs is sick."
 
The case, which was brought by the USPS in 1997, was widely considered to be a ridiculous waste of USPS funds - especially considering the fact that the game had nothing to do with the Post Office or its employees; a fact apparently lost on then U.S. Postmaster General/CEO Marvin Runyon.
 
POSTAL was banned in over ten countries and blacklisted in the USA through the hypocritical efforts of U.S. Senator and Presidential candidate Joe Lieberman. "It's friggin ridiculous to think that every time we or one of our fans bought a stamp, that money went directly into a campaign to put us out of business" mused Desi.

BRUCE COLFIN JUDGES ENTERTAINMENT LAW MOOT COURT COMPETITION, APPOINTED TO SEMI FINAL ROUND OF CARDOZO/BMI MOOT COURT

Bruce E. Colfin of Jacobson & Colfin, P.C., was appointed Judge for the semi final round of the Benjamin Cardozo Law School/Broadcast Music, Inc., Entertainment and Communications Law Moot Court Competition held Sunday March 23, 2003. Mr. Colfin was Chief Judge of his panel.
 
The competition, consisting of teams from law schools throughout the nation, featured questions relating to issues of copyright infringement, new digital technologies, and trade names.
 
Mr. Colfin is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Five Towns College in Dix Hills, New York, where he, and Mr. Jacobson, teach Music Business Contracts.
